BRTHR

BRTHR, consisting of two friends, Alex Lee and Kyle Wightman, have been changing the way video editing and directing should be.

BRTHR unofficially formed in 2010, when Lee and Wightman met in the film program at New York City’s School of Visual Arts and then they both dropped out two years later. After they dropped out that's when they say the real fun started happening from, shooting music videos in India, trashing hotel rooms with rappers, and doing commissions for companies like Facebook and it's all came from a combination of being independent and YouTube tutorials.

Their unique glitch style of editing has commonly been imitated throughout the years. They have a very flashy way of editing their videos and making it know that you are watching one of their music videos. From the cinematic slow motion to the bright ambiance of colors in the videos grab the attention of any person watching and puts the viewer in awe. The two have notably done videos for artist like Travis Scott, The Weeknd, and Joji. Also stepping into commercial work with companies like Yves Saint Laurent and Converse.

"It’s hard to become a big director in this generation. The film industry favors experienced directors. There’s still ageism, but it’s changing," Alex says (Via Hype Beast). They plan to take their time with their progression and want it to feel natural to them. They want people to care about their work more than anything and keeping the fan base they have always interested. "We want it to be like that—where it’s not just the rapper’s fans that like the video, it’s BRTHR fans that want to watch the movie." They say they will get to that point soon but it is all about timing and they are not planning to rush it.

  1. I find this article very interesting and true. I agree with what he says that it's hard to become a director now a days, but they have such a unique way of editing and doing films, they're not far from it. I've never heard of them before but I'm definitely a fan now, and would like to see what other stuff they come up with.
